Carter Abrahamsen
Started Robotics: 7th grade
Main Role on Team: I’ve always considered myself a utility teammate. I build, work on daily logs, organize parts. But, most of all, my love for power tools has made me the designated Dremel guy.
Qualified for Worlds: 3
Hidden Talent: I can recite all of “We Didn’t Start The Fire” by Billy Joel
Favorite Quote: Carl Sagan’s “Pale Blue Dot” (it’s a long quote but I highly recommend looking it up)
Favorite Book: “A Song of Ice and Fire”by George R. R. Martin
Favorite Movie: I think Martin Scorsese is the greatest director of all time
Favorite Activity: Fly fishing is my favorite way to relax
Favorite Food: I love a good pizza
Post CEHS Plans: I plan to attend Colby College for their joint engineering degree
What do you like to listen to while in the VEX Lab: It depends on the time of day. At 4-5pm I like classic rock. But if it’s 10pm, and we’re trying to get the code right before a competition, I prefer more punk rock..
What will you miss about the VEX Lab: The lab is my locker, study hall, hangout area, and cafeteria. I will miss having a space to share and talk with friends.
What does it take to stick with the CEHS VEX Robotics Program: You have to really like robotics or at least enjoy the people you’re doing it with. Robotics is a lot of work and sometimes requires you to stay late in the lab, like really late, like until the custodians kick you out late. That isn’t possible if you don’t love robots and the people you’re doing it with.

Evan Gebhart
Started Robotics: 6th grade
Main Role on Team: Builder
Qualified for Worlds: 4
Favorite Quote: “All you need is a dremel and a dream”
Favorite Book: “What if?” By Randall Munroe
Favorite Movie: The Truman Show
Favorite Activity: Robotics
Favorite Food: Pad Thai
Post CEHS Plans: Robotics inspired me to pursue mechanical engineering in college and hopefully I’ll end up working at NASA.
What do you like to listen to while in the VEX Lab: Music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s (lots of Billy Joel, The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Elton John, etc…)
A piece of wisdom about the program: Screw joints are the best type of joint. When building your robot, use them as often as you can
What will you miss about the VEX Lab: There’s so much I’ll miss about the lab, but what I will miss most are the amazing people
What does it take to stick with the CEHS VEX Robotics Program: Love of the craft is all you need. If you truly love robotics, you’ll find yourself spending more and more time in the lab. And once you have the robotics bug, it’s hard to get rid of.

Carmen Erickson
Started Robotics: 8th grade

What do you like to listen to while in the VEX Lab: Waltzes (or anything classical)
What will you miss about the VEX Lab: The atmosphere and the people.
A piece of wisdom about the program: Time management is key. If you think you have enough time to do something, you don't. Get it done.
What does it take to stick with the CEHS VEX Robotics Program: Good friends and a passion for exploration, discovery, and challenge
How was it being one of the only girls in the program: I joined because all my friends had been doing it. I didn't think about being one of the only girls, and even now, with four male teammates, it doesn't change how I view robotics, the work, or our accomplishments. Robotics is for everyone, robots don't care who you are, as long as you don't throw them into a wall after they decide not to work the morning of a competition. The only important thing is your feelings for STEM and robotics; if you want to join, do it. Build a robot? I believe in you. Spend hours perfecting code? Not my cup of tea, but have fun either way.
