Team 56 2022-23

Cape Elizabeth hosts a world-class Robotics program for Middle and High school students, consistently ranking among the highest competitors in the state and sending teams to the World Championships nearly every year.

Our program was founded in 2006 with one coach and 6 high school students. Over the next ten years, the Cape Robotics Program experienced exponential growth and popularity due the administration’s philosophy that STEM enrichment programming should be available to any child interested in participating. By 2014 the program included students throughout the entire school system; elementary students are introduced to the principals and concepts robots in the classroom; fifth and sixth graders are have the option of joining after school programs or VEX IQ; seventh and eighth graders learn to build and code in VEX Robotics. Middle School teams are also eligible to compete in tournaments throughout Maine for 6th - 12th grade students.

The high school VEX season extends from September to March, ending with the Maine State Competition. Throughout the season, students build and code robots to compete in tournaments alongside other teams and schools. Since the start of our program, our teams have gone out and won numerous awards for both achievement and character. Cape Roboticss teams annually qualify and compete in the Maine VEX State Championship for a chance to qualify for the Worlds Competition. Since 2011, our students have qualified for the VEX Worlds every single year. In 2022, we sent three teams to compete on the world stage. In this same time-frame, multiple robots qualified for the Create US Open Championships.

VEX IQ

For 5th and 6th grade students, we offer a weekly class to introduce and experiment with the principals of robotics and engineering. Students work in teams to build fully-functioning robots using introductory level VEX IQ parts. The IQ students are co-taught by experienced high school students and engineers alike to give the best possible experience for the next generation of makers.

VEX VRC Robotics

For students from 7th - 12th grade, we offer the opportunity to compete in VEX Robotics competitions around Maine with teams from other schools. This program provides a higher level of hands-on experience with engineering and problem solving, allowing students to follow the design process and compete in tournaments.
